What we arrange

Contract lane volume

For shippers who award lanes once a year or once a quarter, through a full RFP or smaller mini-bids. You commit to a volume on each lane, such as a set number of loads per week, and the rate holds for the period. We plan carrier capacity for the forecast, not for the day the tender arrives.

Dedicated capacity and dedicated teams

Trucks and drivers assigned to your freight on a recurring schedule through qualified carriers: the same equipment, the same drivers and the same appointment, week after week. Where a long recurring lane has to keep moving, the program runs on two-driver teams so the truck does not stop for a rest period.

Shuttles, yard moves and drop-trailer pools

Short repeat runs between a plant and a warehouse, a cross-dock, or a rail ramp or port, and yard moves within a site. A drop-trailer pool keeps empty trailers staged at your dock so your team loads on its own schedule and outbound trailers are picked up loaded, without trucks waiting at the door.

Surge, seasonal and multi-mode programs

Extra committed capacity for produce season, retail peak or a planned plant shutdown, agreed before the volume arrives. Larger programs can mix truckload, intermodal, refrigerated and cross-border lanes under one agreement, with each lane on the mode that suits it.

Spot, contract and dedicated, side by side

Spot freight is priced load by load at the day’s market. Contract freight holds an agreed rate for a period on forecast volume, though neither side is legally bound to every individual tender, which is why tender acceptance is tracked. Dedicated goes a step further: capacity is reserved for your freight. Many shippers run all three, and we help decide which lanes belong where.

One contact, measured and reviewed

A single point of contact runs the program. You get regular reporting on on-time pickup and delivery, tender acceptance and claims, and a quarterly business review that looks at what missed, what changed in your volume and which lanes need a new plan.

Choosing the right mode

Contract and dedicated capacity pays off when freight repeats. If it does not, the spot market or a different mode usually serves the load better.

One-off or irregular loads

Spot truckload is priced on the day, with no volume commitment.

Truckload & Dry Van

Long recurring lanes with some transit flexibility

Contract intermodal can lower the cost of steady weekly volume.

Intermodal & Drayage

Recurring Canada, U.S. and Mexico lanes

Cross-border programs set up the customs broker hand-offs and in-bond moves once, then repeat them.

Recurring perishable freight

Coverage and lanes

Contract and dedicated programs run on all four lane types, from local shuttles in the Greater Toronto Area to weekly cross-border lanes into the U.S. and Mexico.

Canada domestic

Within Ontario, Ontario–Quebec, and east–west across Canada to the Prairies, British Columbia and the Atlantic provinces.

U.S. domestic

Between U.S. markets, from the Northeast and Midwest to the Southeast, Texas and the West Coast.

Canada–U.S. cross-border

Northbound and southbound through the main crossings, including Windsor–Detroit, Sarnia–Port Huron, Fort Erie–Buffalo and Lacolle–Champlain.

Mexico cross-border

Freight to and from Mexico, coordinated through U.S.–Mexico gateways such as Laredo.

Examples of lanes we arrange

  • Plant-to-warehouse shuttles within the Greater Toronto Area
  • Weekly committed loads between Ontario and Michigan, Ohio and Indiana
  • GTA distribution centre to store networks in Ontario and Quebec
  • Ontario to Texas and Mexico, recurring weekly volume, both directions
  • Seasonal surge capacity for produce and retail peak

Examples only. We arrange lanes across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

How it works

  1. Share the lane data. Lanes, volume by week or month, seasonality, equipment, appointment rules and service levels, or your RFP file.
  2. Lane review and proposal. We review each lane and return a capacity plan, the form that suits each lane and an RFP response in your format.
  3. Trial loads. A set of loads on the awarded lanes to confirm transit, appointments and handoffs before full volume.
  4. Ramp-up. Volume moves onto the program on an agreed schedule, with carriers, contacts and escalation paths set.
  5. Report and review. Regular KPI reporting and a quarterly business review to adjust lanes, volume and capacity.

What to send for a quote

  • Equipment: dry van, reefer, flatbed, team, drop trailers
  • Appointment rules, accessorials and service levels expected

  • Your RFP template or bid file, if you have one

Frequently asked questions

What is dedicated contract carriage?

An arrangement in which trucks and drivers are assigned to one shipper’s freight under a contract, running that shipper’s schedule rather than picking up loads for others. Stryke arranges dedicated capacity through qualified carriers.

What does “dedicated” mean in trucking?

That the equipment and driver work only for your freight for the agreed period: the truck is not filled with other shippers’ loads, and the schedule is built around your pickups and appointments.

What is the difference between spot and contract freight?

Spot freight is priced one load at a time at the current market. Contract freight uses a rate agreed for a period, usually through a bid or RFP, on expected volume. Contract rates hold for the period, but they are not binding tender by tender, so tender acceptance is measured.

What is the difference between a contract carrier and a common carrier?

In everyday use, a common carrier hauls for any shipper under its standard terms, while a contract carrier works for specific shippers under a negotiated agreement covering lanes, volume, service levels and rates.

What is an RFP in trucking?

A request for proposal: the shipper lists its lanes and forecast volumes and asks carriers and transportation providers for committed rates, then awards lanes on rate, service and capacity. A good freight RFP includes volumes by lane, seasonality, equipment, appointment rules, accessorials and the contract term. We answer in your template, lane by lane, and say plainly which lanes we can commit capacity to and which suit another form or mode.

Is there a minimum volume for a contract or dedicated program?

There is no fixed minimum. Contract rates make sense once a lane repeats, even a few loads a month. Dedicated capacity needs enough steady freight to keep the assigned equipment working, and we size the program to your actual volume.

Can dedicated capacity include teams or drop trailers?

Yes. Programs can run on two-driver teams for long recurring lanes, and can include a pool of drop trailers staged at your dock for loading on your own schedule.

How is a dedicated or contract program measured?

On on-time pickup and delivery, tender acceptance and claims, reported regularly and reviewed with you each quarter, along with volume changes and lanes that need a new plan.
